SAP job cuts increase to 10,000 workers in July 2024 AI overhaul
What’s happening at SAP?
In January, Germany-based software development company SAP announced a company-wide restructuring plan that was expected to affect 8,000 employees globally. However, SAP now says that restructuring will result in 9,000 to 10,000 job cuts.
Official statements and context
- SAP says the majority of the 9,000 to 10,000 job cuts will be carried out through voluntary leave programs and internal re-skilling initiatives.
- The newly expanded restructuring plan will boost profits by around €200 million in 2025.
- The announcement comes after SAP shares surged this past Tuesday, increasing by 6% in Frankfurt and 4% in New York.
- Deutsche Bank analyst Johannes Schaller stated, “We believe SAP is still in the early innings of its ‘harvest phase’ following ~3 years of substantial investments,”
