The company began as Tweed in 2013, and was renamed Canopy Growth Corporation in 2015 following a merger with Bedrocan Canada.

Recent layoffs at Canopy Growth
- February 2023: Canopy Growth CEO David Klein announced another round of job cuts that will affect 800 employees and result in the closure and consolidation of numerous facilities in Canada.
- November 2022: Canopy Growth is laying off 55 employees as it restructures its operations in Canada.
- April 2022: Brenna Eller, vice-president of media and communications for Canopy Growth, announced that the company is laying off or firing 243 workers.
- December 2020: Canopy Growth has shut down operations at five Canadian facilities and laid off 220 employees in a bid to reduce costs.
- March 2020: Canopy Growth announced that it has closed greenhouses in Delta and Aldergrove, B.C., impacting 500 jobs.
Severance pay for Canopy Growth employees
