Salesforce Layoffs: Jobs to be cut at ‘Own’ following $2B acquisition
What’s going on at Salesforce?
Just months after acquiring Own Company (Own) for approximately $2 billion, Salesforce is reportedly planning to cut jobs at the New Jersey-based data management startup.
According to Bloomberg, employees at Own were told during a presentation this week that some roles won’t be required at the end of January.
A spokesperson for Salesforce refused to comment on the workforce reduction.
The company’s multi-billion-dollar purchase of Own marks its second-largest acquisition since Slack in July 2021.

It remains unclear if Canadian employees at Own will be affected by the workforce reduction.
According to LinkedIn, the company has more than 120 workers in the country.
Your rights
In Canada, non-unionized employees at Own are entitled to full severance pay when they lose their jobs due to downsizing, corporate restructuring, or the closure of the business.
This applies to individuals working full-time, part-time, or hourly in Ontario, Alberta, and British Columbia. In some cases, this can also apply to independent contractors.
Key Severance Facts:
- Severance can be as much as 24 months’ pay—depending on age, length of service, position at the company, and other factors.
- In addition to salary, severance may cover bonuses, commissions, and other compensation.
- You have up to two years from the date of your termination to pursue full severance pay—regardless of any employer-imposed deadlines, which aren’t legally enforceable.
