Lumentum layoff impacts 10% of global workforce: Reports
Samfiru Tumarkin LLP has learned that Lumentum, a leading designer and manufacturer of optical and photonic products, is allegedly reducing its workforce by 10 per cent as part of a global restructuring plan.
With a reported employee count of 7,500, this reduction, if true, means approximately 750 individuals could be impacted.
Lumentum’s Ottawa office, which employs over 300 staff, may also be affected by these changes. These reports have not yet been confirmed.
Headquartered in San Jose, California, Lumentum is known for its contributions to optical networks and laser technology.
This isn’t the first time that the company has scaled back its staffing levels. Layoffs were also reported last year and in 2021.
Lumentum’s main competitor in the industry is Coherent.

Don’t sign on the dotted line!
Before you accept any severance offer, double-check the amount using our firm’s free Severance Pay Calculator. It has helped millions of Canadians determine their entitlements.
In addition to your salary, make sure to factor in any other elements of your compensation (i.e. bonuses, commission, etc.).
If your employer didn’t provide you with the correct amount, it’s very likely that you have been wrongfully dismissed and should contact an experienced employment lawyer at Samfiru Tumarkin LLP. Do not sign any deadline offer from your employer until you have spoken to our team. Once you sign back the offer, you lose your right to negotiate a fair package.
Non-unionized employees in Canada have up to two years from the date of their dismissal to pursue proper severance pay.
