What’s Happening at Ming Pao?

Ming Pao Daily News, a Chinese-language newspaper, is shuttering its Canadian operations — affecting approximately 60 employees.

According to reports, the outlet will close its newsrooms in Toronto and Richmond, British Columbia (BC) on Jan. 31, 2026, citing “financial reasons.”

Ming Pao released its final editions for Toronto and Vancouver on Jan. 16. Former Canadian staffers claim the newspaper was a lifeline for Chinese-speaking immigrants from Hong Kong, Taiwan, mainland China, and beyond.
