Hootsuite laying off more staff amid restructuring

After cutting 30 per cent of its workforce in August, Vancouver-based Hootsuite is trimming its headcount even more.

According to reports, the Canadian social media company is laying off five per cent of its staff as part of a global restructuring.

The reduction is the latest in a flurry of layoffs that have swept across the North American technology sector this year.

In addition to Hootsuite, RenoRun, Microsoft, Meta, Shopify, Snap, Article, Unbounce, Clearco, Q4, and Wealthsimple have substantially reduced their workforces as they continue to monitor market conditions.

Prior to Hootsuite’s initial layoff in the summer, financial data firm Refinitiv reported that the company employed a global workforce of approximately 1,000 people.

Termination agreements for Hootsuite employees

In Canada, non-unionized employees and senior executives at Hootsuite are owed full severance pay when they lose their jobs due to downsizing or corporate restructuring.

This includes individuals working full-time, part-time, or hourly in Ontario, Alberta, and B.C.

Severance can be as much as 24 months’ pay, depending on a number of factors.

If you aren’t given the full amount, which happens often, you have been wrongfully dismissed and are entitled to compensation.
