Agri-Food Canada Layoffs: The Latest

As Health Canada prepares to trim its headcount in 2026, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada has also sent out layoff notices — looking to eliminate approximately 665 positions.

“The message [sent on Jan. 22] notified employees that 1,043 affected letters would be issued,” a spokesperson for the federal agency told CTV News.

Details will be shared with employees first, in keeping with the department’s obligations and out of respect for its personnel. As such, we do not have any additional information to share at this time.”

Prime Minister Mark Carney’s Liberal government is looking significantly scale back the federal public service over the next 4 years.
