Show Notes
- Mistreated by a manager and let go: Employees that are experiencing bullying and harassment should first voice their complaints internally. Employers have an obligation to investigate all complaints of harassment and resolve the situation properly. Employees cannot be penalized or terminated due to voicing harassment complaints, it is illegal.
- Major salary reduction: Employees who have had their salary significantly reduced can resign from their position and still receive severance pay. Employers do not have the ability to impose major changes to an employee’s job, such as a pay reduction, without consent. Failing to receive approval is considered a breach of the employment contract, and employees are considered to be terminated.
- Let go after decades of employment: Severance pay is based on numerous factors, particularly the age of an employee, position, and years of service. Long-service and older employees could be owed a significant severance package.
