Show Notes
- Stan discusses business closures and severance pay: Many employees mistakenly believe that a company that shuts its doors is not capable of paying out severance to employees who have lost their jobs. This is in fact untrue as only businesses that declare bankruptcy do not have enough assets to pay out.
- Religious exemption denied by an employer for vaccine: Employees are entitled to file a human rights complaint regarding their religious exemption. It is also possible for an employee to pursue a wrongful dismissal if they have been terminated for cause as a result of their vaccination status.
- Annual bonus rescinded by an employer: Employers are not within their rights to remove a bonus payment if it is a term of employment without an employee’s consent. A major change to compensation can lead to constructive dismissal.
- Toxic behaviour from a manager: All employees are entitled to a harassment-free environment at work. Employees should first begin an internal complaint and ensure all incidents are documented. Employees who feel their company has not properly resolved complaints can file a complaint with the Ministry of Labour.
- Severance responsibilities if the company is sold: Ultimately the type of sale will determine whether or not the previous employer owes employees severance or the buyer.
