TFT Global Axing Nearly 250 Jobs Ahead of GM Oshawa Shift Cut

What’s Happening?
TFT Global Inc. (TFT) is eliminating nearly 250 jobs as General Motors (GM) prepares to cut a third shift at its plant in Oshawa, Ont.
The company is one of many auto part suppliers that serve GM’s facility.
CBC News obtained a copy of a termination notice posted inside the plant — stating that 245 of TFT’s 873 hourly workers and 3 “other” staffers will be terminated on Sept. 26.
However, there’s talk that the termination date could be extended to early November.
Jeremy Herman on Termination Date Extensions
Jeremy Herman, an Ontario employment lawyer and associate with Samfiru Tumarkin LLP, explained to CBC’s Rochelle Raveendran that it’s common for companies to extend a termination notice.
It remains unclear how many non-unionized TFT employees are affected by the workforce reduction.
Next Steps for TFT Employees

Non-unionized employees in Oshawa are entitled to severance pay. This includes individuals working full-time, part-time, or hourly.
