Is Sony Pictures Closing Pixomondo?

Yes — Sony Pictures (Sony) plans to shutter the Los Angeles-based VFX firm after outstanding projects and contracts are completed.

Pixomondo has studios in major cities around the world, including Toronto, Montréal, and Vancouver.

It’s currently unclear when Sony plans to officially “wind down” operations. However, the company does plan to shift VFX work internally to Vancouver-based Imageworks.

Canada offers an international co-production financing model that allows local animation studios to share risk and rewards on content with foreign partners.
