ONxpress reportedly cuts staff in major restructuring effort
What’s going on at ONxpress?
Samfiru Tumarkin LLP has been contacted by multiple employees at ONxpress — claiming significant job cuts are taking place as part of a restructuring.
According to CityNews Toronto, the transportation infrastructure company and Metrolinx have decided to call off a 25-year partnership that was supposed to start this year.
“[Both] parties are working on an amicable settlement to end the partnership,” Metrolinx said in a statement.
“Alstom will maintain its role supporting the operations and maintenance of GO Transit and UP Express, to continue delivering best-in-class service that Ontarians have come to expect.”
Our experienced employment lawyers are following up with affected ONxpress staff to better understand the situation and review their severance packages.
Lior Samfiru’s statement to CityNews
“Many [ONxpress employees] are concerned about what happens next, especially since this project was expected to provide long-term stability and employment for years to come,” said Lior Samfiru, co-founding partner of Samfiru Tumarkin LLP.
“In these situations, severance pay must account not just for someone’s age, position, how long they worked, and any bonus, but also the unique difficulty of securing similar roles in a specialized industry.”
