Show Notes
- Salesperson labelled as a contractor is terminated: Employees that are terminated without cause are owed an adequate severance package. Many employees are mistakenly classified as independent contractors. Misclassified employees can miss out on vital employment rights, such as vacation pay, sick leave, and particularly severance upon termination.
- The law prevents an employer from behaving inappropriately: Employment law cannot prevent an employer from behaving in an inappropriate or illegal manner. Employment law can compensate an employee if they have been mistreated or their rights have been violated.
- Severance offer is inadequate: Unfortunately, regardless of the company or position, most employees are offered inadequate severance packages. Many individuals mistakenly accept an initial offer of severance or speak to the Ministry of Labour concerning their rights. The government can only advise employees only on their minimum entitlements. Before accepting a severance offer, employees should speak to an employment lawyer.
