Show Notes
- Time theft and wrongful dismissal: It is important for employees who work remotely and use company devices to be aware of tracking software. Employers are within their rights to implement tracking software in Ontario but must inform their employees if it is used. Employees should be wary of productivity and habits while working from home.
- Mass layoff conducted over the phone: Employers are within their rights to terminate employees in any manner and for any reason as long as adequate severance pay is offered. Employees terminated in a mass layoff are still owed severance pay based on their years of service, age, and position.
- Business is being sold and employees are unemployed: Employees who are let go due to the sale of a business are owed severance pay. Employees that are hired by the purchaser of the company should ensure that their previous years of service are acknowledged. Length of service is significant when determining severance entitlements.
