Show Notes

  • Ban on Tik Tok for government devices: The federal government’s ban on the app has led to questions about the limits to an employer’s restrictions. Employees that are using company devices can be told which applications are permitted by their employer. Employers are able to have some level of control particularly if it is a company-owned device. Employees should look closely at the terms of their contracts to determine restrictions regarding personal devices.
  • Privacy questions and company devices: As more people are working from home and using personal devices to contact clients, limitations should be drawn by employers to establish privacy. Employees are within their rights to protect their personal details from clients and should communicate their concerns with their employers.
  • Induced employee severance entitlements: Employees that have been terminated from a job after being induced by a new employer could be owed additional severance pay. A new employer might have to consider the employee’s previous years of service from their former company. Employees unsure of their rights should speak to an employment lawyer before signing a severance offer.
