Show Notes
- Employee company purchased by a new employer: Employees that lose their job as a result of acquisition are owed severance pay from their previous employer; the seller of the company. Employees that are hired on by the new employer but do not want to accept the offer might be owed severance pay. A new job offer that demotes an employee or reduces pay significantly can lead to an employee receiving their full severance entitlements.

- Calculating severance pay for employees: Age is a determining factor for employees when calculating severance pay. Elder employees can be owed more severance pay than younger employees as there could be difficulty finding new employment.
- Employee recruited from another company and then let go: Employees that have been induced into a new job and employment and then are let go by their new employer could be owed additional severance pay. Employees in this situation would not be treated as a new employee and their years of service at a previous company must be taken into consideration.
