🔹02:38 – The Week That Was: A 43-year-old man from BC has been on long-term disability for a while now. He was asked by his insurer for updated medical information from his doctor. He was told by his adjuster that if he cannot obtain an update that he would be cut off. He isn’t able to visit his doctor’s office due to COVID-19.
📞 05:45 – Phone Call from the Disability Law Show – “I’ve been watching your show for several months now and find it very informative! My best friend was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder because of a violent attack she suffered a year ago. Her psychologist says that she should absolutely not work; not even from home, until she is better. She is a web designer by profession. She was denied long term disability and now with the COVID-19 situation, I’m afraid that she’ll get even worse. What can she do?”
▶️COVID-19 and LTD – If you applied for long-term disability and got denied, these are your 3 options:
►13:12 – Do nothing and walk away; simply give up.
►16:10 – Appeal the denial.
►18:20 – Start a legal claim.
📞 21:50 – Phone Call from the Disability Law Show – “My father was in a car accident years ago and recently he re-aggravated his old back injury. He is a mechanic and hasn’t been able to go to work even before the COVID-19 pandemic, but when he got denied long term disability recently they said that it was because of the shutdown of the mechanic shop that he can’t work and not because of his injury. That’s not what his doctors are saying. They say that he is disabled from working. I’m not sure how to help him.”
📧 26:18 – Email from Help@disabilityrights.ca – My best friend has severe bouts of asthma and he is terrified of the Corona Virus. He works in construction and they have several projects on the go right now. He’s been almost paralyzed with fear and anxiety and his doctor just referred him to see a psychologist. I’m wondering if he can apply for disability if the psychologist says that he can’t work.
