- Slip and fall accidents due to lack of maintenance: It is important in the event of a slip and fall accident, it is important to document all aspects of the accident and the environment it took place. Often this means taking pictures of the surrounding area. Slip and fall accidents that happen on public property must be reported to the city as soon as it occurs. Typically there is a form that individuals can fill in.
- Medical documentation when applying for long-term disability: Often, a claimant that has a legitimate medical disability does not have the specific information needed in a medical file detailing how they are unable to work. Treating doctors can be unaware of what is required in a report that is provided to an insurance company. A treating doctor should detail how a claimant’s symptoms and condition prevent them from being able to perform the tasks of their job.
- Travelling while on LTD benefits: It is important when claimants are unclear of the terms and provisions of their long-term disability policies to request a copy of their policy. Claimants that are still unsure of the terminology used in a disability policy can ask for clarification either from the insurance adjuster or a disability lawyer.
- Adjuster asking for updates with CPPD approval: Insurance adjusters do receive a credit if a claimant receives approval for CPP Disability while also receiving long-term disability benefits. It is important for claimants to apply for CPPD if possible as approval can ensure another source of benefits in the event that LTD benefits are cut off, as well as a strengthened claim.
