What You Need to Know if you are Owed Refunds from Explorica or Reimbursement through Old Republic or Arch Insurance
The COVID-19 pandemic brought travel plans for tens of thousands of Canadian students to a sudden halt in March 2020. Many of those school trips were purchased through Explorica Inc., a company specializing in international student trips.
Over six months later, numerous families across Canada are still waiting for refunds and reimbursement for their cancelled trips, either from Explorica, or from Old Republic Insurance Company of Canada (ORIC) and Arch Insurance (the insurance companies that issued travel insurance policies for these trips).
Explorica claims that ORIC and Arch Insurance are failing to honour and reimburse families pursuant to existing trip cancellation policies. ORIC and Arch Insurance, however, state that they have not been provided proper information from Explorica in order to process these insurance claims. Both sides are pointing fingers at each other, while families are left wondering when they will be reimbursed.
My child’s school trip has been cancelled. Can I get a refund?
If you purchased a trip through Explorica, and were insured with ORIC or Arch Insurance, you may have a legal claim against them for reimbursement of your cancelled trip expenses. Legally, either Explorica, the insurance company who insured your trip, or both, must reimburse you for your paid trip expenses.
