On Tuesday morning, a Valley Line Southeast LRT train derailed after colliding with a semi-trailer in southeast Edmonton. The accident occurred near the intersection of 75th Street and Whitemud Drive, shortly before 10 a.m.
- Emergency responders arrived at the scene, and one person was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
- The injured individual was transported to the hospital. Authorities have confirmed that their injuries are not life-threatening.
- There were no immediate reports of injuries to other passengers or the semi-trailer driver.
Investigation updates
Edmonton Police Service (EPS), in collaboration with the city and Valley Line operator TransEd, is investigating the cause of the derailment. The off-ramp from Whitemud Drive westbound at 75th Street remains closed as authorities examine the circumstances surrounding the collision.
This incident marks the second collision involving the Valley Line LRT this week. On Monday evening, LRT service was disrupted when a cyclist collided with a southbound Valley Line train near Bonnie Doon Shopping Centre. That incident is also under investigation.
EPS is asking for any witnesses who may have observed the collision or the moments leading up to it to come forward.
