People with Type 2 Diabetes Prefer Flexible Dietary Approach, 2025 Study Finds
When the choice is between a flexible diet or a strict meal plan, individuals with Type 2 diabetes reportedly prefer the former.
According to a new study, published in the Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics, 57% of respondents favoured an “intermittent” low-energy diet over a “continuous” one.
When additional dietary options were offered, so did the preferences:
- 36.5% favoured a moderate calorie-restricted diet
- 29% preferred a low-carbohydrate diet
- 17.7% favoured a continuous low-energy diet
- 12.4% preferred an intermittent low-energy diet
Health experts believe the findings highlight how a patient-focused approach to dietary advice for individuals with Type 2 diabetes can enhance long-term adherence and health outcomes.

Disability Benefits for Diabetes in Canada
Diabetes can have a profound impact on an individual’s ability to perform their job duties — even with appropriate treatment.
For Canadians who can’t work due to this debilitating condition, short-term disability (STD) and long-term disability (LTD) benefits can provide a crucial financial lifeline.
How These Benefits Help
- STD: Provides temporary financial support for individuals unable to perform their job duties.
- LTD: Offers income replacement for individuals unable to return to work for an extended period of time.
To qualify for STD or LTD benefits, medical documentation is essential to demonstrate how your condition prevents you from working.
Sadly, insurance companies often deny legitimate LTD claims — including in cases involving diabetes — adding unnecessary stress to an already difficult situation.
