Trump to proceed with reciprocal duties on Canadian lumber, dairy

What’s happening?
U.S. President Donald Trump said his administration will be proceeding with reciprocal tariffs on Canadian lumber and dairy products.
The update comes on the same day that the federal government unveiled a $6-billion aid program to help Canadian businesses weather a potential trade war.
“[Canada will] be met with the exact same tariff unless they drop it. That’s what reciprocal means,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office on March 7.
“We may do it as early as today [March 7] or we’ll wait until Monday or Tuesday. But that’s what we’re going to do, we’re going to charge the same thing. It’s not fair.”
The reciprocal tariffs appear to be separate from the duties that the president plans to impose on April 2.
