Steve Nash Fitness World lawsuit highlights widespread problem: Global BC

Steve Nash Fitness World is facing a class-action lawsuit over allegations it doesn’t properly pay employees, largely due to the misclassification of employees as independent contractors.
A Vancouver employment lawyer at Samfiru Tumarkin LLP reveals told Global BC reporter Neetu Garcha why the fitness industry is a hotbed for exploitation and why wage-related labour violations often occur.
“Gyms, or the fitness industry overall, are hotbeds for exploitation because they contain both of those things: a lack of information [for employees] and miss-classification,” the lawyer said.
