Can an employer terminate for cause an employee who uses sick days when they aren’t truly sick? How does an employer avoid wrongful dismissal when firing an employee over sick day abuse?

Canadians are far from sick of shopping, although employers can expect around 1 million calls from staff claiming to be “under the weather” on either Black Friday or Cyber Monday as they plan to hit stores and keyboards, according to a new IPG Mediabrands study.

A total of 560,000 Canadians took a sick day on Black Friday, while 405,000 took one on Cyber Monday.
