‘Working on eggshells’: Roadtrek temporarily trimming staff due to U.S. duties
What’s going on at Roadtrek?
Roadtrek is temporarily scaling back its staffing levels in response to the ongoing Canada-U.S. trade war.
“Due to changes to North American trade agreements and tariffs and subsequent influences to our business, which are beyond our control, we regret to inform you that Roadtrek Inc. has been forced to reduce production output,” the Cambridge-based camper van and RV company said in a recent letter to staff.
As of April 7, approximately 80 jobs are affected. It’s unclear the move targets both unionized and non-unionized positions.
“We’ve basically been, I guess, working on eggshells,” Roadtrek union representative Gary Hudson told CTV News Kitchener.
The company is currently planning to recall workers on April 14.
