Mohawk College Slashes Dozens of Jobs, Second Cut of 2025
What’s going on at Mohawk College?
Mohawk College has reportedly eliminated 91 full-time jobs, or approximately 20 per cent of its full-time workforce, and more than 100 part-time positions.
Spokesperson Sean Coffey told CBC News that affected staff were notified on Feb. 11.
Both the college and the unions representing impacted workers blame the recent cuts on a lack of provincial government funding and limits on international students — largely driven by the federal government.
“These layoffs are heartbreaking. Faculty did an excellent job teaching our students and they shouldn’t be the ones losing their jobs in a situation that is entirely avoidable,” Heather Giardine-Tuck, president of Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) Local 240, said.
The latest workforce reduction comes just weeks after Mohawk College axed more than 120 roles in January.
