Employment lawyer on large-scale firings over vaccination
Interview Summary
Businesses across Canada have implemented vaccine mandates with or without government legislation. While there are a few sectors, such as long-term care, in which mandatory vaccinations have been authorized by the government, most workplaces are imposing vaccines without legal counsel. What can employees who are unvaccinated and facing terminations do to enforce their rights?
Jon Pinkus, a Toronto employment lawyer and Partner at Samfiru Tumarkin LLP joins CTV National News to comment on the mass terminations and employee rights.
“The federal government has the power to impose mandatory vaccinations as a law,” states Pinkus. Pinkus goes on to explain if mandatory COVID-19 vaccinations are passed as a law, employees who are terminated would not have any recourse.
