INVISTA to shut down Maitland plant, cut 100 jobs, move to Victoria

What’s Going on at INVISTA’s Maitland Plant?

INVISTA is winding down production at its long-standing Maitland, Ontario facility — cutting approximately 100 jobs — as the company consolidates operations elsewhere, reports CTV News.

  • The chemical manufacturing giant announced on Tuesday it will relocate production of Dytek A to its Victoria, BC site
  • Its core hexamethylene diamine (HMD) operations will continue in Texas
  • INVISTA is owned by Koch Industries, and also maintains a facility in Kingston, Ontario

Less than a year ago, INVISTA announced a $23 million investment to re-commission HMD assets at the same Maitland site — a move now reversed as market conditions have shifted.

Why It Matters

Maitland is situated 8 km east of Brockville and 109 km south of Ottawa — a historically industrial region now facing increasing economic pressures.

This closure adds to growing concern over job losses in eastern Ontario’s industrial corridor, especially as major multinationals consolidate operations in the US or abroad.

What They’re Saying

Brook Vickery, INVISTA president and CEO: “We want to recognize and thank the Maitland employees, contractors, and others who have contributed to INVISTA’s success over the years.
This decision is not a reflection of their efforts, but rather a reality of today’s market environment.”

The company says a “phased” approach to decommissioning will be used, and severance will be provided for affected staff.
