Instagram CEO Claims Social Media isn’t “Clinically Addictive” During Meta Trial
At a high-profile trial in the US, Instagram’s CEO Adam Mosseri claimed that he doesn’t believe social media is “clinically addictive.”
“I’m sure I said this, but I think it’s important to differentiate between clinical addiction and problematic use,” Mosseri said during testimony in Los Angeles Superior Court on Feb. 11, 2026 — noting several times that he isn’t a medical professional.
“So it’s a personal thing, but yeah, I do think it’s possible to use Instagram more than you feel good about.”
Meta — Instagram’s parent company — YouTube, Snap, and TikTok are facing a major lawsuit — alleging the social media giants have misled the public about the safety of their apps while knowing certain design choices and features fostered detrimental mental health effects in young users.
Disability Benefits for Addiction in Canada
Certain forms of addiction can have a profound impact on an individual’s ability to perform their job duties.
For Canadians who can’t work, short-term disability (STD) and long-term disability (LTD) benefits can provide a crucial financial lifeline.
How These Benefits Help
- STD: Provides temporary financial support for individuals unable to perform their job duties.
- LTD: Offers income replacement for individuals unable to return to work for an extended period of time.
To qualify for STD or LTD benefits, medical documentation is essential to demonstrate how your condition prevents you from working.
Sadly, insurance companies often deny legitimate LTD claims — including in cases involving addiction — adding unnecessary stress to an already difficult situation.
