If HR Tells You To “Suck It Up”, Here’s What You Should Do
You tell your company’s human resources department that a belligerent boss is harassing you. Instead of attempting to solve the problem, HR downplays your complaint and basically tells you to “suck it up”.
What should you do next?
A university employee found herself in this predicament after she flagged her manager’s inappropriate behaviour, which human resources admitted they were already well aware of.
When her boss learned that she had lodged a complaint, the relationship deteriorated even further: the employee eventually took a medical disability leave in response to the stress she was experiencing.
She contacted us for assistance. Listen below as employment lawyer Lior Samfiru describes her experience and positive outcome on the Employment Law Show.
A reminder to employers that you CANNOT ignore a complaint involving harassment, otherwise an employee may be able to label their workplace as a “poisoned work environment” and claim constructive dismissal. They would then be able to resign from the company with full severance pay.
