Honda Halts Work on $15B Ontario EV Facility, Leaving Hundreds of Jobs in Limbo
What’s Happening at Honda?
Honda has confirmed that it’s halting work on its $15-billion electric vehicle (EV) plant in Alliston, Ont. — leaving hundreds of manufacturing jobs in limbo.
“Based on our revised strategic objectives, we have determined that an indefinite suspension of the value chain project is appropriate at this stage,” the automaker said in a statement on May 14, 2026.
“We will continue reviewing our future procurement and business strategies, while carefully monitoring market conditions.”
Once fully operational in 2028, Honda’s planned EV facility was expected to employ around 1,000 Ontarians.
