With data finding that the gender pay gap is starting to widen again, a new Glassdoor survey warns that layoffs in 2026 could worsen the divide.

Almost two-thirds of women (63%) who’d lost their job this year claimed that they feel pressure to accept lower salaries to reenter the workforce, compared with 52% of men.

“In a weakening labour market, it’s the most exposed workers who are going to feel it the hardest, and they’re going to feel it first,” Chris Martin, Glassdoor’s senior economist, told Bloomberg.

Martin adding that women, Black and Hispanic workers, and individuals age 41 or older are having the hardest time finding work.
