What’s Happening at Google?

A Google executive recently informed staff that the tech giant has eliminated 35% of its managers overseeing “small teams” over the past year.

“When we look across our entire leadership population, that’s managers, directors and VPs, we want them to be a smaller percentage of our overall workforce over time,” Brian Welle, vice president of people analytics and performance, said in an audio recording of an all-hands meeting obtained by CNBC.

CEO Sundar Pichai reiterated during the meeting that the company needs to be “more efficient as we scale up so we don’t solve everything with headcount.”

Impact on Canadian Staff

It remains unclear how many Canadian employees in management positions at Google have been let go.

According to LinkedIn, the company currently has more than 3,700 workers in the country.
