Canadian Movie Star Evangeline Lilly Confirms Brain Damage After Hawaii Fall
What Happened to Evangeline Lilly?
Months after falling and hitting her head on a rock at a beach in Hawaii, Canadian movie star Evangeline Lilly informed fans on Instagram that she has brain damage.
“I’m entering into this new year, the Year of the Horse, with some bad news about my concussion,” Lilly said in a video shared on the Meta-owned social media platform.
“[According to my brain scans,] almost every area in my brain is functioning at a decreased capacity…So, I do have brain damage from the [traumatic brain injury].”
The actress, known for major roles in Lost and several Marvel movies, added that she’s preparing to “embark on the hard work of fixing it” with her treatment team.

Disability Benefits for Traumatic Brain Injuries in Canada
A traumatic brain injury (TBI) can have a profound impact on an individual’s ability to perform their job duties — even with appropriate treatment.
For Canadians who can’t work, short-term disability (STD) and long-term disability (LTD) benefits can provide a crucial financial lifeline.
How These Benefits Help
- STD: Provides temporary financial support for individuals unable to perform their job duties.
- LTD: Offers income replacement for individuals unable to return to work for an extended period of time.
To qualify for STD or LTD benefits, medical documentation is essential to demonstrate how your condition prevents you from working.
Sadly, insurance companies often deny legitimate LTD claims — including in cases involving a TBI — adding unnecessary stress to an already difficult situation.
