Global News interview on Ontario legislation and tracking employees

The Ontario government has introduced legislation as part of the Working for Workers Act, 2022 which could have an impact on employee rights while working remotely. As part of Bill 88, employers will have to inform employees when they are being tracked electronically and to what degree. What could this mean for employee rights?

Alex Lucifero, an Ottawa employment lawyer and managing partner at Samfiru Tumarkin LLP, spoke with Matt Bingley at Global News and explains this legislation needs to “have teeth”.

“We still have to see if there are any rules to enforce the right to privacy. Otherwise, the government is simply mandating employers to introduce a policy without the nuts and bolts of what these policies should say,” explains Lucifero.
