Dell layoffs hit multiple roles, including sales, marketing: Reports
Dell Technologies (Dell) is initiating significant global layoffs, particularly impacting its marketing and sales teams, according to multiple online reports.
Widespread team impacts are being reported, including significant changes within Dell Blue.
Sources suggest these layoffs, occurring over the next few weeks, are part of Dell’s strategy to integrate more generative AI into its operations.
Impact on Dell’s Canadian Employees
The exact number of Canadian employees affected by these layoffs remains uncertain.
Dell, which has a strong presence in Canada and is headquartered in Toronto, has experienced similar workforce reductions in the past.
Last year, 6,650 employees were laid off due to declining market conditions.
Several tech companies continue to shed jobs in 2024, including PayPal, Salesforce, SAP Canada, Microsoft, eBay, SkyHive, Amazon, and Google.
Termination agreements for Dell Canada employees
In Canada, non-unionized employees at Dell are owed full severance pay when they lose their jobs due to downsizing, corporate restructuring, or economic difficulties.
This includes individuals working full-time, part-time, or hourly in Ontario, Alberta, and B.C.

People working “on contract” or as a contractor may also be owed severance pay — given that many employees in Canada are often misclassified as independent contractors.
Severance can be as much as 24 months’ pay, depending on a number of factors.
