SIU: Cyclist hurt after collision with police cruiser in downtown Windsor

Incident details
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU), Ontario’s police watchdog, has invoked its mandate following a collision involving a cyclist and a Windsor police cruiser.
“Preliminary information suggests at about 1:38 p.m. on April 6, 2025, an officer was en route to a call for service,” the SIU said in a news release.
“At the intersection of Glengarry Avenue and Assumption Street, there was a collision involving the [Windsor police] cruiser and a cyclist. The cyclist was taken to hospital where he was diagnosed with serious, non-life-threatening injuries.”
Motorists were asked to avoid the area.
Investigation updates
Anyone with information on the crash, including cellphone or dashcam footage, is asked to contact the SIU at 1-800-787-8529.
The agency examines police conduct in incidents that result in serious injury, the discharge of a firearm, allegations of sexual assault, or death.
