Cloud Software Group, the tech company launched after Citrix Systems merged with TIBCO Software, announced that it’s significantly trimming its headcount.

In a note to staff on Jan. 11, CEO Tom Krause said management has decided to lay off roughly 15 per cent of its total workforce after conducting a “rigorous planning process.”

“While building our plan required the difficult decisions that resulted in the elimination of many roles, we now know where we are investing in the next year, what we need to accomplish in each area of the business, and what we should be focused on as a team.”

Krause added that the reduction eliminates role redundancies and “[flattens] our organizational structure dramatically to drive far greater accountability.”

According to TechTarget, Cloud Software Group employed a global workforce of approximately 15,000 people prior to the layoffs.

The latest round of cuts at the Citrix-TIBCO parent company is expected to affect around 2,250 workers.

Canadian impact

It remains unclear how many Canadian employees at Cloud Software Group are impacted by the reduction.

Samfiru Tumarkin LLP has been contacted by several workers who claim that they have been let go.

Major tech layoffs continue

Cloud Software Group isn’t the only major tech company kicking off 2023 with mass layoffs.

Amazon and Salesforce are significantly scaling back their staffing levels as both businesses continue to monitor market conditions.

The reductions come after a flurry of tech sector layoffs in 2022.

Thousands of jobs have been axed by big names, including Cisco, Meta, Twitter, Hootsuite, Microsoft, Shopify, and Snap.
