Boosting Survival: 2025 Study Explores Best Time to Administer Cancer Drugs

A recent study, published in March 2025, highlights how the human body’s internal clock influences the effectiveness of cancer treatments.

Zhe Huang, MD at Central South University, and his colleagues found that shifting when people with cancer receive immunotherapy drugs could, in some cases, nearly double their survival rate.

“Compared with patients [we] treated later in the day, those treated before 3pm had significantly longer progression‑free survival and overall survival,” team member Yongchang Zhang told New Scientist.

While randomized controlled trials with larger sample sizes are needed, experts claim the study “further supports” the growing number of reports describing better results with early time of day delivery for immunotherapy drugs.
