“Team Canada Strong”: Feds Looking to Ramp Up Skilled Trades by 2030
Is Canada Looking to Increase Skilled Labour?
Yes. Prime Minister Mark Carney’s government revealed in its spring economic update on April 28, 2026 that it wants to recruit, train, and hire 80,000 to 100,000 new skilled trade workers by 2030-31.
The $6-billion initiative — dubbed “Team Canada Strong” — will include a variety of incentives to achieve this goal.
“At this pivotal moment in Canada’s history, we’re charting a course through the fog of uncertainty and global headwinds with strength, determination, and ambition—and building one strong Canadian economy, by Canadians, for Canadians,” Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne said in a news release.
The federal government wants to increase in construction jobs nationwide, and is ensuring that it has the skilled labour to handle the move.
