Bad blizzard causes Hwy. 401 crashes, closures in southwestern Ontario
A major snowstorm swept across southwestern Ontario—causing collisions and closures on Highway 401.
Jackie Lemmink, who was using the highway to get to Michigan, told CBC London’s Afternoon Drive on Dec. 5 that she witnessed multiple crashes before traffic came to a “standstill.”
Another motorist, Craig Sears, said he and his family were stranded for hours before vehicles began moving slowly around 8 p.m. ET—adding that conditions were still poor.

Earlier this week, a snowy smashup took place north of Kingston.
Two vehicles collided on Sydenham Road between Eddy Lane and Horning Road in South Frontenac on Dec. 4.
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are reminding motorists that it’s their job to properly “adjust to the conditions” and “get home safely.”
