What’s going on at Amazon?

Amazon has confirmed it is cutting approximately 100 jobs in its Devices & Services division — the unit responsible for Alexa, Echo smart speakers, Zoox robo-taxis, and Project Kuiper.

The move follows a broader industry trend as tech companies refocus resources amid economic uncertainty and a push for operational efficiency.

  • The company says the decision was made “to better align with our product roadmap,” according to GeekWire.
  • Despite the cuts, Amazon emphasized it is still hiring for hundreds of roles within the division.
  • Impacted workers are being offered transition support, though the company has not disclosed severance specifics.

The Devices & Services group has previously faced internal scrutiny, particularly around Alexa’s monetization challenges and Echo’s long-term strategy.
