Airbus slashing 2,000 jobs, Space Systems business mostly impacted
What’s going on at Airbus?
Airbus is eliminating more than 2,000 jobs in Defence and Space, or approximately five per cent of its second-largest division.
According to news outlets, including Reuters, more than half of the 2,043 positions being cut will affect the company’s Space Systems business following heavy losses on satellites.
The workforce reduction is expected to be implemented by mid-2026—focusing mainly on white-collar and management positions, rather than operational ones.

It remains unclear if non-unionized employees in Canada are affected by the latest round of layoffs at Airbus.
According to LinkedIn, Europe’s largest aerospace group employs more than 2,600 Canadians.
Employee support & next steps
Non-unionized employees in Canada affected by layoffs, including those at Airbus, may be eligible for severance pay.
Severance can be as much as 24 months’ pay. It’s calculated using a variety of factors, including age, length of service, position at the company, and ability to find new work.

- You don’t have to accept a severance package immediately or a few days after receiving it. Employees in Canada have up to two years from the date of their termination to review and negotiate severance entitlements.
