What’s happening at Air Transat?

Transat A.T., the parent company of Air Transat, is considering laying off up to 80 employees as it contends with mounting financial pressures. The potential job cuts were disclosed in a notice sent to the Quebec government, as required under provincial labour regulations.

Additional details

  • The layoffs could take effect by November 1.
  • It will not impact pilots, flight attendants, or other federally regulated positions.
  • Transat spokesman Andréan Gagné called the notice a “precautionary measure,” required by provincial law, and that the layoffs may not come to pass.
  • Air Transat navigates a difficult year, grappling with intensified competition, engine recalls, and the looming threat of a union strike.
  • The company reported a net loss of $155.3 million for the first three quarters of 2023, compared to $28.5 million in the same period last year.

Layoffs outside Quebec

It remains unclear if any Air Transat employees in Ontario, Alberta or B.C. will lose their job as a result of this layoff.
