AI Responsible for 50,000+ Layoffs in 2025, Bombshell Report Claims

A futuristic 3D rendering of the word

As artificial intelligence (AI) helps various businesses improve their operations, it’s responsible for tens of thousands of layoffs in 2025, according to consulting firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas.

The report claims that nearly 55,000 roles in the US alone were axed in favour of leaner, more agile organizational structures driven by AI. However, some experts believe the technology is being used as a scapegoat for overhiring that remains after the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Instead of saying ‘we miscalculated this 2 [or] 3 years ago,’ [employers] can now come to the scapegoating…saying ‘it’s because of AI though,'” Fabian Stephany, assistant professor of AI and work at the Oxford Internet Institute, told CNBC.

While it’s unclear how many jobs in Canada have been cut this year due to AI, countless workers have reached out to Samfiru Tumarkin LLP for severance reviews and legal advice.
