22-year-old dead after SUV, tractor-trailer collide south of Woodstock

Incident details
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a fatal collision involving a “small, compact SUV” and a tractor-trailer in Norwich Township, south of Woodstock.
- The incident took place in the area of Base Line and Norwich Road before 7:30 a.m. ET on Feb. 19.
- A photo of the scene shows significant damage to a dark-coloured SUV that ended up in a ditch.
- The sole occupant of the SUV, a 22-year-old man from Simcoe, was rushed to hospital where they were later pronounced dead.
- No injuries were reported for the driver of the tractor-trailer.
- “I just want to extend my deepest and sincerest condolences to family members and friends affected by this tragedy,” OPP Sgt. Ed Sanchuk said in a video posted on X (formerly Twitter). “Police officers are knocking on your door to tell you that your loved one is not coming home.”
- Motorists were asked to avoid the area and not drive around the road closure signs.

Investigation updates
The cause of the fatal two-vehicle collision remains under investigation. It’s unclear if charges are pending.
