What’s Happening?

The Vancouver Art Gallery (VAG) is trimming its headcount as part of an effort to reduce its operating budget.

“[Employees] have been informed that reductions will take place across all areas of the gallery, including staffing,” Jasmine Bradley, senior director of communications, told the Daily Hive.

“These are hard decisions, but they are being made with care and a continued commitment to our public mission.”

While it remains unclear if both unionized and non-unionized staff are affected, Vancouver CUPE Local 15 has given VAG permission to offer voluntary severance packages to its members.

Offered a Voluntary Severance Package?

Non-unionized employees in British Columbia shouldn’t accept a voluntary severance package before speaking with an experienced employment lawyer at Samfiru Tumarkin LLP.

This includes individuals working full-time, part-time, or hourly in the province.

In some cases, individuals could be owed far more compensation if they’re fired by the company — or let go involuntarily.
