What’s Happening at the City of Toronto?

The City of Toronto is reportedly planning to expand its 311 workforce in 2026 as part of a major refresh at the department.

According to various social media sources, the city is currently looking to add approximately 15 part-time contact centre representatives.

The update comes as the 311 website is being redesigned — with a new AI chatbot to be accessible to residents by the end of the year.

Will the AI Chatbot Replace Existing Staff?

According to city staff, the AI chatbot’s focus is general inquiries from the public (i.e. provide info on how long it takes to get a pothole filled), while human agents will handle more complex issues.
