GM Investing $63M in Oshawa Assembly Plant for Next-Gen Truck Production
What’s Happening at General Motors?
General Motors (GM) is investing an additional $63 million in its CAMI Assembly plant in Oshawa, Ont. — bringing total investment in the facility to $1.5 billion since 2020.
“This additional investment underscores Oshawa’s importance in GM’s full-size truck portfolio,” Jack Uppal, president and managing director of GM Canada, said in a news release.
“With a long history of building trucks in Canada, the talented team at Oshawa Assembly will continue to play a critical role for years to come in delivering the pickups our customers know and trust.”
This round of funding will be used to:
- Upgrade stamping operations
- Support the next generation of gas-powered full-size pickups
- Enhance capability in the service parts business
However, the announcement comes just weeks after the automaker eliminated the “third shift” at the Oshawa plant — affecting hundreds of jobs.
