Transformative Treatment: Drug Capable of Making Bone Cancer Tumours Less Painful
A new bone cancer therapy is reportedly capable of both improving an individual’s mortality, as well as their quality of life by alleviating the excruciating pain caused by tumours.
Dr. Jiajia Xiang, a research professor at Zhejiang University in China, and his colleagues have developed a drug that’s able to only produce “gasdermin B” in cancer cells. The protein kills cells by puncturing holes in them.
In addition to gasdermin B, the drug, administered as a capsule, also contains a chemical called “OPSA,” which boosts the body’s natural anti-cancer immune response.
When applied to mice, the rodents in the complete treatment group saw bone cancer tumours decrease by approximately 94%.
Xiang told New Scientist that the therapy directly killed the cancer cells and provoked an anti-tumour immune response. He’s hoping to start human trials in the next 5-10 years.

Disability Benefits for Cancer in Canada
Cancer and cancer treatment can have a profound impact on an individual’s ability to perform their job duties.
For Canadians who can’t work due to this grave illness, short-term disability (STD) and long-term disability (LTD) benefits can provide a crucial financial lifeline.
How These Benefits Help
- STD: Provides temporary financial support for individuals unable to perform their job duties.
- LTD: Offers income replacement for individuals unable to return to work for an extended period of time.
To qualify for STD or LTD benefits, medical documentation is essential to demonstrate how your condition prevents you from working.
Sadly, insurance companies often deny legitimate LTD claims — including in cases involving cancer — adding unnecessary stress to an already difficult situation.
